Route Descriptions
The routes are numbered from west to east. The maps are the Ordance Survey Landranger series. 'Easy' routes contain no long or steep hills and are generally 'flat'. 'Medium' routes are more undulating but have no long climbs. 'Hilly' routes contain both long climbs and possibly some steep ones.
RIDE 1
WIRRAL LANES

Distance: 19 miles (option of 22 mile route included)

Terrain: Quiet roads and off-road cycleways.
Cycle through the heart of the gentle and tranquil scenery of the Wirral peninsula and then through some of the attractive villages which line the Dee estuary.

CHESTER

Distance: 13 miles

Terrain: Quiet roads and surfaced canal towpath.
Bring the countryside with you into the heart of the city using the canal cycleway and the quiet roads around Chester.
RIDE 3
THE DEE VALLEY
(EASY)
Distance: 19 miles

Terrain: All on quiet roads except 1 (optional) track.
Visit the Roman Bridge at Farndon, a working water mill and a dairy farm as you cycle through the verdant farming country of west Cheshire.

TARVIN AND TARPORLEY

Distance: 17 miles.

Terrain: Some firm tracks, a stretch of canal towpath and quiet roads.
Cycle through two attractive Cheshire villages and visit the ancient packhorse bridges at Hockenhull Platts.

Terrain: Cycle track, bridleways and quiet roads.
Explore the wooded valleys and sandstone ridges of central Cheshire, making use of the variety of tracks available here including forest rides and bridleways, converted railway tracks and old trackways.

Terrain: Small quiet roads throughout with one short off-road section.
Cycle in and out of the beautiful Peckforton hills, seldom out of sight of the imposing hilltop castles of Peckforton and Beeston, to the sleepy village of Bunbury.

Distance: 20 miles.

Terrain: Mostly on quiet roads with a few firm off-road sections.
See Lewis Carroll’s birthplace and visit Anderton Boat lift, one of Cheshire’s most popular attractions on the way to the attractive estate village of Great Budworth.

GRAPPENHALL AND ARLEY

Distance: 21 miles

Terrain: Mixture of cyclepaths, bridleways and quiet roads.
Follow the Bridgewater canal visiting the peaceful village of Grappenhall and using the Trans-Penine Trail before cycling through tranquil Cheshire lanes and around the beautiful estate of Arley Hall.

A route linking the National Trust parks of Tatton Park and Dunham Massey using quiet roads and tracks. No park entry charge for cycles!

This route links the National Trust properties of Tatton Park and Quarry Bank Mill (C18 textile mill) at Styal using mostly quiet roads and tracks. No park entry charge for cyclists!

Terrain: Firm bridleways and quiet roads.
Cycle on winding roads and tracks through undulating countryside, with constantly changing views, to visit one of Cheshire’s finest meres and a working corn mill.

LYME PARK AND THE GOYT VALLEY

Distance: 13 miles

Terrain: Bridleways and tracks with a few rocky sections, cycleway and quiet roads.
Climb through Lyme Hall Park with fantastic views, descending to the lovely Goyt Valley Trail and returning on the Middlewood Way cycle path.

Distance: 12 miles (18 using optional extension)

Terrain: Quiet roads, cycletrack and bridleways.
Plenty of gears and good brakes required as you ascend to Teggs Nose with its spectacular views and then down again for an easy return ride via Macclesfield on the Middlewood Way.
